Hanna Jonsson - Biography

This talented person was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. As a young girl living in Iceland she no doubt learned her extraordinary needlepoint from her mother and great grandmother who lived to be 96 years old. She graduated from "Kvennask'ola" a craft college in Reykjavik having learned over 250 different stitches A popular radio singer and recording artist during the fifties she and my father Arni emigrated to Nova Scotia Canada in 1965 with three small children. I was the youngest at 2. Her love of needlepoint was not forgotten, she soon started displaying her works at different exhibitions throughout the province and started teaching four classes a week in old fashion goblin stitch, florentine stitch,cross-stitch and flos which is similar to hooking. She was one of the first women in Nova Scotia to introduce Icelandic wool, one of the softest and lightest wool in the world, by making and selling Icelandic lopi sweaters.
